Overcoming Comparison In The Wedding Industry

With the last blog post featuring tips for finding your dream dress, I couldn’t help but think about what often accompanies the search: comparison. And overcoming comparison in the wedding industry is no easy feat! You fell in love with the dress on a model in your favorite bridal magazine. And once you put it on…it looks different. I want you to ditch the image of the likely photoshopped model and take in what you see in the mirror as your first impression -fitting clips and all! I want you to know one dress does not define beauty, the heart behind it does.

Comparison is something we all face as brides, mamas, and even wedding photographers. In a world of seemingly perfect social media grids where success is measured through likes rather than love, holding true to ourselves is harder than ever.

My challenge is that you free yourself of those comparison causers! Whether it’s “un-following” accounts that make you feel like you aren’t good enough, or simply taking a break from your newsfeed to focus on your own style & growth. Just as you set goals, start setting boundaries to begin overcoming comparison in the wedding industry!

Forbes says it best, “Practice celebrating your uniqueness and being proud of your accomplishments. Then learn to celebrate the accomplishments of yourself and others.”
